A 20–year-old man is being held by the Tema Regional Police Command for allegedly attempting to behead one Daniel Norteye, a 19- year old Junior High School student in Tema Newtown.

The suspect, Charles Ayitey, who is a dancer was said to have attempted to behead Daniel Norteye, also a dancer at about 4am on Sunday, 31 July, 2016, when the two were both sleeping in the suspect’s room.

The victim, Daniel Norteye, had his throat slit and has since been undergoing treatment.

Narrating his ordeal to Oman FM, the visibly distraught Daniel Norteye, said the two went for dancing rehearsals at Adjetey Ansah, a suburb of Tema Newtown on Saturday, 30 July 2016.

According to him, the rehearsals ended at 1:30am on Sunday and since his house was a bit far from the place, the suspect asked him to go and spend the night in his house and go home the next day and therefore agreed.

Daniel explained that he got up in the course of the night and then saw the suspect standing by him and asked why he was not sleeping, but he gave a flimsy excuse.

Daniel told Oman FM that at about 4am he felt a sharp pain at his neck and got up, only to see the suspect holding a knife trying to cut his throat and struggled with him for several minutes before overpowering him and escaped.

He said he went home to report the suspect to his auntie who also called his father and informed him about the incidence.

Asked whether he had previously had any grudge with the suspect, but Daniel responded in the negative.

In an interview with Oman FM, Daniel's father Nii Okai, who expressed shocked about the behaviour of the suspect said he personally led some people in the neighbourhood to arrest him and handed him over to the police.

When contacted the Public Relations Officer for Tema Regional Police Command ASP Juliana Obeng, who confirmed the incidence, said the police have begun investigations into the case.

She said initial search in the suspect’s revealed a stinking beheaded snake, eggshells, and powder which was sprinkled around the room.

The police, according to her, also retrieved a doll in the suspect’s room.

When he was interrogated the suspect’s, according to ASP Obeng, indicated to the police that he took the beheaded snake from a friend who was going to eat it, but could not tell what he was going to use the items for.

She said investigations are still ongoing adding that the suspect would be arraigned before court as soon as investigations are concluded.
