A civil society group, Ghana Youth Watch (GYW) has charged the youth to reject President John Dramani Mahama’s second term bid and rather vote for what they described as a transformational leader during the upcoming general elections.
According to the group, President Mahama doesn’t deserve a second term because he has failed Ghanaians particularly, the youth in the country.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the Convener of the group, Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi noted that President Mahama’s leadership for the past three and half years had been nothing, but failed promises and visiting untold hardship and suffering on Ghanaians.
“Under President Mahama graduates cannot find jobs, nursing trainees are not being posted after training, teacher trainee allowance has been cancelled, high rate of prostitution, armed robbery etc,” he noted.
Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi, who made mockery of President Mahama’s “Changing Lives Transforming Ghana” slogan, explained that the slogan is all about inflicting pain and changing the plight of Ghanaians from bad to worse.
“When the youth who cannot find jobs go and steal 10 cedis to buy food to eat and survive and ends up being arrested and beaten mercilessly. It is when politicians put their hands in state coffers and are being asked to resign and go with the booty and ends up denying the country developments.”
“Is this the transformation that President Mahama is talking about? Is this changing lives? Is President Mahama changing lives from bad to worse? he quizzed.
Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi argued that what Ghanaians needed to do save the country from total collapse is by voting for a transformational leader during this year’s elections.
He described transformational leader as someone who searches within his people to find out things that makes them go wanting and providing solutions in order to improve their living conditions.
According to him, such leaders are selfless, have listening ears, punish crime, reward competence and also groom leaders.
“We want a leader who will transform Ghana. We want a leader who will bring the youth jobs. This is because Ghana is on the verge of collapse and so need someone to save it,” he conjectured.
Emmanuel Osei Gyamfi charged the youth to rise up and let their voice be heard since the adult’s generation has decided to keep mute in spite of mismanagement of the country’s economy by the current administration.
“We have to will rise up. Let’s not be cowards anymore. We have to make sure that right things are done in this country,” he charged.
