A former National Youth Organizer of the People's National Convention(PNC) Abu Ramadan has dared President John Dramani Mahama to exercise his prerogative of mercy by invoking Article 72 of the Constitution and free the three jailed Montie FM contemnors to prove to Ghanaians that he is a man and very powerful. "Great Mahama, do the magic again. Free those three individuals. Use the green pen. By the stroke of the green pen, write that you have pardoned those individuals. Cut the nose of the Supreme Court to spite the face of the court by freeing those individuals, and then we will all know that you're powerful. I want to see the power of the President," he charged. Abu Ramadan threw this challenge following a petition submitted to President Mahama by lawyers for the jailed persons and supporters of the NDC, asking him to free three persons who are all NDC members by invoking Article 72 of the Constitution. The host of "Pampaso" political talk show on Montie FM, Salifu Maase, popularly known as Mugabe, and two panelists, Alistair Tairo Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, all belonging to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), were handed four months' jail term by the Supreme Court Wednesday. This was after the court found them guilty for issuing death threats to the Supreme Court judges while a case involving Abu Ramadan versus the Electoral Commission (EC) over the credibility of the voters register was still pending. Speaking on Oman FM's political analysis show "Boiling Point" Thursday, Abu Ramadan, who was flabbergasted at the steps being taken by the Lawyers and supporters of the governing NDC, said President Mahama would set a bad precedence for the country and cautioned him against taking that step. Abu Ramadan was surprised that mature lawyers such as Nana Ato Dadzie and Godwin Tamakloe, would stoop so low and seek to encourage lawlessness and indiscipline by petitioning the President when the contemnors were using Montie FM to preach what he termed as terrorism on the radio. "Where were those agitating for the release of the Montie FM trio when they were preaching terrorism on the station? Is it because they were doing their party's bid that is why they are making all these noise?" he quizzed. Abu Ramadan, who commended the Supreme Court judges for incarcerating Mugabe, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Tairo Nelson, was optimistic that the decision by the court would send a strong signal to those who sit on radio and rain insults on eminent Ghanaians.
