Some former inmates of the OSU Children’s Home who are living abroad have threatened to file a suit against President Mahama administration if it goes ahead with its plan to offer the home for sale to a private developer.

The angry former inmates some of whom are pastors, judges, lawyers, and administrators stated that any attempt by President Mahama administration to offer the home for sale will be resisted.

They contended that government has no justification to sell the home because the home has nurtured several prominent people in society.

A Memo written by the Employment and Labour Ministry regarding the sale of the home which was intercepted by Minority in Parliament recently generated a heated argument on the floor of Parliament.

Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Della Sowah, who appeared in Parliament to answer questions on the issue flatly denied that government was planning to offer the home for sale.

But the Minority was not satisfied with the explanation she gave and demanded that the substantive Minister comes back to the house for further probing into the issue.

Speaking to Oman FM in an interview via telephone from South Africa, Dr. John Shaka, one of the former inmates of the home who is the Head Pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) branch in Johannesburg claimed that information available to him indicates that government intends to offer the home for sale at the cost of GHS 12million.

Giving a historical background of the home, Dr. John Shaka, said then CPP government led by late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah acquired the area from the Chief of La -Dadekotopon, a suburb of Accra and deliberately cited the home in its present location in Labone for strategic reason.

He expressed doubt that President Mahama administration will make the move to sell the home since President Mahama and his wife ones adopted a child from the same home.

Dr. Shaka, who described the move as a bad one accused government of selling every available land in Ghana and warned government to stay off Osu Children’s Home.

“If they have sold all the lands in Ghana, they should spare us Osu Children’s Home. If it is true that they want to sell it, we will fight it,” he said.

“If government is broke, it should look to somewhere else for money and not to sell the home,” he added.
