National Women's Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba has waded into the debate over the controversial comments made by Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong against chairperson of Electoral Commission Madam Charlotte Osei that she traded her womanhood for the position.

According to her, the comment by the MP against the EC chairperson is very serious and must be investigated by the investigative bodies to establish whether it is true or false.

“He is a Member of Parliament. He is not an ordinary person. He is representing the people of Assin Central. He should not be condemned outright but we should find out if there is any merit in what he said or not…For the sake of our country, for the sake of democracy, for the sake of peace and transparency in the election,” she stressed.

She argued that the allegation by the MP should not be swept under the carpet since the EC chairperson Madam Charlotte Osei got her position through an appointment by the President.

She said Kennedy Agyapong should be made to render an unqualified apology to EC chairperson and Ghanaians if the allegations proved to be false after investigations.

Speaking on Oman FM, Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba said if the allegation against Madam Charlotte Osei is proven to be true then she can be sure that EC boss will do everything possible to favour her appointing authority since she is the referee for this year's crucial elections.

“Imagine Ghana playing with Togo in a football match and Asamoah Gyan is a captain of Black Stars and his sister is married to the referee or flirting with the referee, do you think the Togolese will be comfortable about it? They will say the referee is not being fair,” she stated.

Otiko Afisa Djaba stressed the need for Ghanaians to be worried since the referee in this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections could be bias.
