A former National Youth Organiser of the People's National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, who sued the Electoral Commission challenging the eligibility of persons who registered with NHIS cards on the voters register at the Supreme Court, has refuted claims by the commission that it has deleted all 56,900 names of NHIS card registrant.
He insisted that the commission has not deleted those names as it wants Ghanaians to believe.
The Electoral Commission on Wednesday announced that it has deleted all the 56,000 names it submitted to the Supreme Court as NHIS card registrants from the current voters register.
The Commission has subsequently, published the full list of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card registrants that have been expunged from the electoral roll.
But speaking on Oman FM political analysis programme "Boiling Point" Abu Ramadan described EC's claim as deceitful and false.
“I sit in this studio and I can beat my chest and tell you that EC is lying. They have not deleted a single name from the register. I have crosschecked with about six different districts in four different regions, the EC has not deleted those names from the voters register. I’ve checked from some of the districts in the Eastern, Volta, Central and Ashanti Region Regions, and those names are still on the register.” The list EC has sent to the districts for the exhibition exercise those names are still intact and are in the list.”
Abu Ramadan who accused EC of being mischievous and diabolical questioned about the mechanism EC adopted to delete NHIS card registrants from the electoral roll.
“When did EC delete the names? At what point or what mechanism was used to delete those names,” he quizzed.
“When I was interviewed after the Supreme Court ruling on the matter, I told the media that I’m hoping the Commission will inject some transparency in its dealings but that certainly is not the case. The EC should have invited the political parties as witnesses before deleting the names from its system. The EC cannot hide in a corner and come and tell the public that it has complied with the ruling of the Supreme Court, which must not be allowed,” he added.
