Kweku Osei Bonsu, CENAB boss going through screening
President John Dramani Mahama has incurred the wrath of pro-opposition group, Coalition to Elect Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia (CENAB) for asking Ghanaians to stop criticizing Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Madam Charlotte Osei.
President Mahama while addressing Muslims at the Eid-al Fitr celebration last Wednesday lashed out at critics of EC chairperson and asked them to stop so she can have the peace of mind to work.
But his comment has not been taken kindly by Coalition to Elect Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia (CENAB) who are accusing him of being dishonest.
Reacting to President Mahama’s comments in an interview with Oman FM during a health screening exercise at Tema Community 4 Chairman of CENAB, Kweku Osei Bonsu, who expressed disgust at President Mahama, said “We will not stop criticizing Madam Charlotte Osei today or tomorrow because what she is doing could plunge this beautiful country into chaos.”
“EC shouldn’t be working for NDC and President John Dramani Mahama. It is supposed to work for all the parties. So, if it is working in the interest of one party and we’re talking and you’re about it,” he said.
Mr. Osei Bonsu wondered why President Mahama becomes unhappy when concerns are being raised about the conduct of the EC chairperson.
According to him, the posture of EC chairperson so far is a clear indication that the Commission is in bed with the governing National Democratic Congress and is planning to rig the upcoming elections in favour of President Mahama.
He could not understand why executives of NDC and President Mahama are always raising objection to concerns of the biggest opposition, New Patriotic Party and yet sees nothing wrong with the adamant posture of EC headed by Madam Charlotte Osei, if they are not in bed.
“If NPP raise issues with the credibility of the current voter, NDC will come out and mount spirited defense of the register. So, why is it that most of the parties are questioning the credibility of the vo0ters register yet NDC sees nothing wrong with it? he asked.
Kweku Osei Bonsu stated that the opposition NPP will not keep silence for EC to go the way it is going since the path they have taken will not lead to peaceful elections this year.
