The Supreme Court has ordered Electoral Commission (EC) to remove all NHIS cards registrants from the current voters register to make it more credible.
The Court in May 2016 ordered EC to delete names of all those who used NHIS cards as proof of citizenship to register prior to the 2012 general elections and give them opportunity to register again.
However, EC claimed the Court did not asked them to delete names of NHIS cards registrants from the register.
This compelled plaintiff in the case Abu Ramadan who is a former National Youth Organiser of the People's National Convention (PNC) to file another suit for clarification of the orders.
The EC furnished the Supreme Court with 56,000 as names of those who used NHIS cards to register.
But lawyers rejected the list arguing that apart from the fact that the list is not accurate, there was duplication of names and numbers.
