The Asanteman Council is demanding the removal of the Mayor of Kumasi, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, from his post over what it considers to be disrespect for the authority of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The council made the call at a durbar in Manhyia Palace on Monday July 4, 2016.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu was summoned to appear before the council to explain why he is being rude towards the authority of Asanteman but he failed to honour the invitation.
Oman FM’s correspondent in the Ashanti Regional Shaibu Lasisi, who was at the durbar reported that Mr. Kojo Bonsu instead sent a delegation led by the Regional Minister Mr. John Alexander Ackon to represent him.
According to him, Akyeamfuo Kwame Akonduah, who spoke on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II cited six instances of misconduct by the mayor as the basis for their call on President Mahama to remove him from office.
This Shaibu Lasisi said included a letter the mayor wrote to dismiss Amoamanhene, Nana Agyin Boateng, who was Otumfuo’s representative from the committee overseeing the Kejetia Central Market Redevelopment Project.
Akyeamfuo Kwame Akonduah also told the gathering how the Mayor dragged one of the Asante chiefs who had gone to the Kumasi Airport to welcome Prince Edwards of UK from one of the vehicles which was part of the convey.
Akyeamfuo Kwame Akonduah who accused Kojo Bonsu of creating confusion in Kumasi Metropolitan Area since he came into office said they expect President Mahama to remove him immediately because he has a diabolical agenda.
