Ashaiman Police grabs 4 persons for possessing 1,688 slabs of Indian hemp

The suspects
Four Ghanaians have been arrested by the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command for possessing 1,688 slabs of compressed substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects are Ofori Malik , 35, Richmond Otieku,27, Edward Mensah aka Nana Yaw, 40, and Kwaku Bonsu ,47.
They were arrested in an uncompleted house in Saki, a suburb of Kpone Katamanso District while they were in the process of packaging the substance in cartons believed to be meant for export to UK.
Edward Mensa and Kwaku Bonsu, who are said to be Ghanaian resident in UK, attempted to bribe the police with £1,900 in order to discontinue investigations but the police reject the offer.

Some of the items which were found includes a bowl of alata samina(locally made soap), £1,900, 2 compressor machines, a scale and bidding tape.
Briefing the media, the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer ASP Juliana Obeng said the Ashaiman Police Command had a tip off of what the suspects were doing at about 4am on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 and quickly deployed personnel to the venue.
She said the sucspects were busily packaging the compressed substance in cartons which had "Fresh Yams" and "product of Ghana" written on them when the police pounce on them.
According to her, the police managed to arrest all the four suspects and in their caution statement admitted owing the substance.

Later, Edward Mensah and Kwaku Bonsu, according to ASP Obeng approached the police and attempted to bribe them to discontinue with the case but they(police) refused the offer.
The four suspects are currently in the police custody pending further investigations.
ASP Juliana Obeng said they will put before court as soon investigations are completed.
