Commercial Drivers in Ashaiman who ply the Klagon-Nungua road have threatened to stage a massive demonstration against Engineers and Planners (E&P), the construction firm working on the 6 kilometer road for delaying the project.
According to the drivers, they will make sure that there will be no movement of vehicle from Ashaiman to Nungua and other surrounding communities on the day of the demonstration.

They added that they will also ensure that the road is blocked so that it will be difficult for vehicles moving from places like Lashibi, Nungua, Sakumono, and Community 18, 19 and to enter Ashaiman Township.
Engineers and Planners, which is being owned by Ibrahim Mahama, younger brother of President John Dramani Mahama took over the construction of the 6km road which stretches from Ashaiman underpass to Sakumono Traffic Light early last year from another contractor for a reason yet to be made known.

It was the expectation of both commercial and private drivers who use the road that it would be completed as soon as possible to ease their frustrations since the road had been in deplorable state for the past ten years.
However, work on the road is not progressing as the drivers had expected.

Speaking to Oman FM, the drivers who lamented bitterly over the deplorable nature of the road said they could no longer continue to bear the brunt of the road, hence their threats to demonstrate to put pressure on the contractor to expedite action on the project.
They said they regularly take their vehicles to mechanical shop for repair works due to the bad nature of the road.
According to the drivers, they spend so much each time they take their vehicles to shop because of multiple damages on their vehicles.
“We are suffering on this road because of how bad it has become. Some car owners do not want their cars to ply on this road because the road is bad. So the contractor should expedite action on the project,” one of the drivers said.
Another diver who spoke to Oman FM news team on condition of anonymity said “We will demonstrate and burn lorry tyres on the road to express our displeasure.”
“The contractor is not trying at all. What is happening is that they will do a little work here and before you realized they have moved to another place and there too they do little and move on to another place,” he added.

When Oman FM news team visited the road, following the heavy downpour on Sunday, June 12, 2016, the road was in a terrible situation.
Motorists had difficulty plying the road because about 5km of the road which stretches from Ashaiman underpass to Sharon Sport, a popular junction on the road had become muddy.
The worst affected part is at the bridge between Klagon and Lashibi, due to overflow of water from the stream in the area.
Some of the vehicles plying the road were spotted stuck in the mud.
Some residents of Lashibi who spoke to Oman FM news team also expressed their frustration about the road.
They appealed to the contractor to expertise action on project to save them from their current predicament.
