Over 100 taxi drivers who operates from New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region have come together to campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to enhance the party’s chances of wrestling power from the ruling National Democratic Country(NDC) to save the country from total collapse.

The drivers who claimed to have campaigned for the NDC during the 2012 general elections, accused NDC administration of introducing new taxes as well as increasing the existing once.

They explained that the excessive taxes being introduced by the NDC administration has made life very unbearable for majority of them, as they spend greater part of their daily income on taxes.

The drivers accused governing NDC of mismanaging the country leading to the collapse of several social interventions which were introduced by erstwhile Kufuor administration to cushion underprivileged people in the society.

Speaking with Oman FM in an interview Chairman of the taxi drivers, Stephen Mensah, said “we were in Ghana between 2001 and 2008 and witnessed how Kufuor led NPP administration governed the country so well to the admiration of all. But what we are witnessing under NDC led by President Mahama is a terrible leadership.”

“During Kufour regime, we went to hospital for treatment without paying bills because of the National health Insurance Scheme. Farmers had their cocoa farms sprayed for free because of there was Cocoa Mass Spraying policy. But all these good policies have collapsed under NDC.”

Mr. Mensah argued that unlike NPP regime which maintained the prices of fuel at a very low rate, “under NDC regime fuel prices have been increased astronomically and this is making life difficult for us.”

“The prices of spare parts, income tax, insurance fees and road worthy fees which used to be very low have all shot up under John Mahama led NDC government,” he stated.

“What is more worrisome to us is about how they have increased insurance fees from GHS 80 to GHS550,” he added.

Mr. Mensah said these and other several factors informed their decision to come together and campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the November 7 polls.

He pledged their commitment to use all their resources to go into the villages and campaign for NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for New Edubiase Constituency George Oduro and flagbearer of NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to increase their chances of winning the polls.
