Akufo-Addo Prays For A United Ghana

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has admonished Ghanaians to remain united in the run-up to the 2016 general elections, by emulating the oneness that prevailed amongst the apostles of the early Church after God poured the Holy Spirit on them.

Nana Akufo-Addo made this known when he worshipped with congregants of the Church of Pentecost, Kaneshie Assembly, on Sunday, May 15, on a day which also marks the Christian holy day of Pentecost.

The NPP flagbearer, quoting from the Holy Book of Acts 2:4-8, stated that “today marks the Day of Pentecost, and the Bible tells us that on this day the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples who were gathered in a room, and they spoke in different tongues. Because the Holy Spirit was on them, the amazing thing is that they understood the different languages which were being spoken. This fostered unity and oneness amongst them. This is the kind of unity we hope and pray for in Ghana”.

This exhortation was met with a deafening roar of approval from the hundreds of church members in the packed auditorium, and residents who thronged the church premises to catch a glimpse of the NPP flagbearer.

Accompanied by Hon. Ahmed Arthur, MP for Okaikoi South; Hon. Elizabeth Sackey, MP for Okaikoi North; Alfred Boye, acting NPP Greater Accra Regional Chairman; Hon. Kwabena Bartels, former MP for Ablekuma North and former Minister in several portfolios under President Kufuor: Joyce Zempare, NPP Greater Accra Women’s Organiser; and Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe, Campaign Aide, Nana Akufo-Addo also requested for prayers for himself and for the nation in this election year.

“When you pray, please do well to pray for me too. Pray to God so he grants me strength, courage, wisdom, and a compassionate heart to be a good leader. Also, pray for the peace of Ghana, and pray for the Electoral Commission so that they conduct a free, fair, transparent election whose outcomes will be readily accepted by all. That is the best guarantee of the peace of our nation,” he said. He continued, “In this election year, and with this being my third attempt, I'm asking that you all set your eyes on me. Have confidence in me because I am coming to do a job for Ghana. I am not coming because I want to steal the money of this country into my pockets. Give me the opportunity this year, and I assure you that I will not disappoint you."

Preaching the sermon from the Book of 1 Samuel 1:1-11, Apostle Emmanuel Achim Gyimah, the area Head of the Church of Pentecost, noted that “Hearing and obeying the voice of the God,” which is the theme of The Church of Pentecost for 2016, stands out as the chief determinant of the destinies of individual persons, families, communities, and nations.

He admonished the congregation to seek the counsel of God, and to hear His voice concerning the person who stands right before God to be elected as the President of Ghana, as well as for righteous candidates to be voted to Parliament.

"If we hear and obey God's voice at this crucial time of our nation's history, we all shall be the beneficiaries of holistic growth and development. But if we fail to hear and obey God's voice, if we make a mistake and elect someone who is not from God, we shall all suffer for the next four years. May the Lord God Almighty be our guide and help in the upcoming November 7 general elections," Apostle Gyimah added.

He urged all gathered not to despair, but wait for God's word concerning their lives, stressing that no matter how long it takes, God's purpose for their lives will always come to pass.
