Residents of Kade in the Eastern Region on Thursday hit the streets to protest against what they described as exorbitant electricity tariff charged by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The angry residents, who were clad in red and black attire, accused the management of ECG in Kade of cheating them.
They explained that the ECG officials bargain with those who had gone to their offices to complaint about their bills.
They say their electricity bills had been increased more than 100%.
Oman News’ Eastern Regional correspondent Isaac Ofori, who was following the protesters, reported that the residents chanted war songs as they walked through the streets of Kade.
They wielded several placards some of which carried offensive messages.
Some of the protesters told Oman News that they were paying only GHC 7 for electricity bill in every month but the amount has shot up to GHC 150.
According to the residents, the exorbitant electricity tariff was impacting negatively on their lives.
They gave the ECG two weeks ultimatum to address their grievances or face their wrath.
