The Greater Accra Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ishmael Ashittey is accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of deliberately skewing the just ended limited voter registration exercise to favour the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC).

According to him, EC employed several tactics during the exercise which made him to be convinced that EC is in bed with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to rig the general elections.

Mr. Ashittey accused EC of recruiting persons who are loyalist of the NDC to officiate the registration exercise in areas which are known to be strongholds of NDC to aid people to register.

Speaking in an interview with Oman News, Mr. Ishmael Ashittey disclosed that figures available to the party from the 10 days registration shows that higher figures were recorded in NDC’s stronghold while areas which are known NPP’s strongholds recorded low figures.

According to him, EC intentionally delayed the registration exercise in NPP’s strongholds thus denying many people from getting registered.

“I’m convinced that somebody sat somewhere and recruited NDC people into NDC strong areas. Because when you see the figures coming from NDC strong areas, you see that the figures are on the higher side. If you see some of the figures coming from the areas that I will call NPP areas you see that they are on the low. They have deliberately delayed the process in NPP strongholds and hasten it in NDC strongholds.”

Mr. Ishmael Ashittey, who lamented bitterly over the situation said that party will strategize counter every move of EC, having known that EC is in bed with the ruling NDC to rig the November polls.

“These are all sort of manipulation that takes place but now that we have come to know that NDC is in bed with the EC to do some of this things we as a political party will come out with a strategy to counter some of this things.

He was confident that NPP will win the 2016 general elections.
