Outspoken New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has accused President John Dramani Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama as well as the mayor of Kumasi Kojo Bonsu for being the brain behind the detention of Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr. Boasiako was detained by the Ashanti Regional police command on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 for allegedly assaulting the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North Collins Owusu Amankwah and the Constituency Secretary, Felix Ibrahim.
The alleged assault took place on the evening of May 1, 2016 at a registration centre in front of prospective voters who had queued to register in the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise.
He was refused bail despite several attempts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that he was granted bail.
Hundreds of NPP supporters thronged the Kumasi Central police station, on Tuesday claiming the NPP leader's detention was politically motivated.
Speaking on Oman FM’s Political Analysis programme “Boiling Point” Kennedy Agyapong, who expressed outraged over the issue lambasted President Mahama and his cohorts for ordering the police to detain Mr. Antwi Boasiako.
“Who has given instruction to the police not to grant Wontumi bail? President Mahama, Kojo Bonsu, and Ibrahim Mahama; yes they are behind it,” Kennedy Agyapong alleged.
He explained that the rationale behind what they did was to create confusion among the rank and file of NPP and divert the party’s attention from the ongoing limited voters registration to pave way for them to cheat.
“They were doing that because Mr. Antwi Boasiako had resisted all attempts by the NDC to get minors and foreigners to register in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.”
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for hiring thugs to prevent prospective first time voters from registering at the various registration centres.
He served notice that the NPP will no longer countenance on the intolerance of the NDC, warning that NPP will face them squarely.
