The girl’s dormitory of the Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS) was on Wednesday dawn gutted by fire injuring some 26 students.
Several items worth millions of Ghana cedis were also destroyed by the inferno, which lasted over two hours.
The items include text books, mattresses and chop boxes containing provisions.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
But narrating the incidence to Oman News, Headmaster of KSTS, Mr. Asare Bediako Ampomah said, the fire started around 3 am, adding that they suspect it was caused by ECG’s substation which is close to the dormitory.
According to him, the substation has often sparked fire and that the authorities of the school have made several complaints to the ECG to fix the problem, but it has fallen on death ears.
He was convinced that ECG will take a cue from the incidence and fixed the problem.
“We believe the ECG will take a cue from what has happened and fixed the problem this time around,” he conjectured.
Touching on the injured students Mr. Asare Bediako Ampomah explained that the students suffered minor because they were rushing to flee the fire scene.
He said they were rushed to the First Care Hospital where most of them were treated and discharged.
Mr. Bediako Ampomah appealed to parents whose wards are in the school to remain calm as authorities are doing everything possible to ensure that the injured students are treated.
