A renowned Human Rights Lawyer and counsel for the 16- year -old boy who was allegedly brutalized by some five soldiers, Francis Xavier Sosu, told Oman News that he will make a formal complaint to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) by the close of Monday, April 25, 2016 to investigate the matter.

The sixteen year old boy, Christopher Bama, was severely battered by the military officers at Tamale in the Northern Region for allegedly stealing a Tecno mobile phone belonging to Colonel Sampson Atuahene.

The victim has since been discharged by the Nsawam Government Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Lawyer Sosu of F-X Law and Associates says the boy has been referred to Clinical Psychology Clinic at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for post-traumatic stress disorder.

He also hinted that he may drag the soldiers to court over their alleged abuse which has left the 16 year old with a damaged kidney.

“We consider this as a violation of the rights of a civilian officer. This young man was just a victim of military brutality which we have condemned in all uncertain terms,” Lawyer Sosu said.

He also revealed there were plans in place to petition organizations like, the Ministry of Defense and the Gender Ministry saying, “As part of the measures, we are taking from our side, we intend petitioning the military high command, CHRAJ, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social protection and Minister for Defence.”

“We are also considering court action under article 33 of the constitution for the vindication of the rights of this minor who has been brutally assaulted by the military officers,” the human rights lawyer added.
