The 2015 Policy Advisor to the campaign team of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) Mr. Boakye Agyarko has chided President John Dramani Mahama for deliberately misinterpreting the term of office of the President as enshrined in the 1992 for electoral fortunes.

According to him, either President Mahama is ignorant of the provision regarding the tenure of an elected President in the constitution or he deliberately told a lie in order to caught sympathy from Ghanaians ahead of the November 7 polls.

President Mahama, who was in the Volta Region on Tuesday during his "Accounting to the people" tour told the chiefs and people in the region to give him another term because the constitution says every President is entitled to two terms in office.

Speaking on Oman FM's Political Analysis programme "Boiling Point" Mr Agyarko described President Mahama's claim as completely false.

He argued that article 66(1) states that "A person elected as President shall subject to clause(3) of this article shall hold office for a term of 4 years beginning from the date on which he is sworn in as President"

He said it clear from the above provision that it is not automatic that every elected President is entitled to four years term as President Mahama wants Ghanaians to believe.

Mr. Agyarko said, what is clear is that the President can be re-elected after his first term, if the electorates are satisfied with his performance.

"For him(Mahama) to say that the constitution guarantees every President two terms smacks of an ignorant and incompetent person," he stated.

The former Vice President of the Bank of New York and Economist said he was not surprised that the country is being mismanaged because "we have an incompetent and clueless leader."

Touching on the energy sector, Mr Agyarko said, the country will soon return to the era of the load shedding management because of huge of huge debt stock.

He said Volta River Authority (VRA) which is the lead power producer owes about $1.539billion.
