The Chairman of the pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has challenged Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, who was part of the Electoral Commission’s five member panel of experts to be bold and tell the truth regarding their recommendation for EC to do validation to clean the voters register.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie charged that “if the chairman of the National Peace Council is able to speak out, it will prove to Ghanaians that he is a God fearing man.

“You were the leader of the Methodist Church, Ghana. And I’m saying that during your leadership you led several Ghanaians to the Altar and converted them to God. So I’m challenging you to stand by the truth,” he charged.

Speaking on Oman FM’s political analysis programme “Boiling Point” Dr. Afriyie said he is surprised that some of the panel members could be so dishonest by going to the extent of discrediting their own recommendation to EC to do validation to clean the voters register.

He urged Professor Asante not to be intimidated by what other members of the panel will say stressing that he shouldn’t also allow himself to be influenced by those who have sold their conscience.

He cautioned him to be careful not to allow politics to influence him because God will hold him accountable should something bad happen to the country during this year’s election.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NDC) and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have clashed over the recommendations of the panel of experts to the Electoral Commission.

While the NPP argues that the panel recommended in page 20 and 21 of the 77 pages report that EC undertakes validation to clean the register, NDC has mounted strong opposition saying “the panel never made that recommendation.”
