The New Patriotic Parliamentary Candidate for the Ningo Prampram Constituency Sylvester Tetteh has said it was about time the security agencies stop concealing vital security information that will put the public on high alert in the wake of terrorism threats.
“We need information to be vigilant. So government should be ready to provide us with the information,” he stressed.
His comments follows reports of a leaked document signed by officials of the Ghana Immigration Service suggesting that a Malian national suspected of the terror attack in Ivory Coast has reportedly disclosed that Ghana and Togo are likely targets.
Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda Sylvester Tetteh argued that sharing this information with the public will make aware of the threats at hand adding that this will also send strong signal to the terrorists, who may be hiding in the country to revise their plans.
He was worried over what he described as the lack of focus on the part of our security services stressed that it makes the country vulnerable to be attacked by terrorists.
According to Sylvester Tetteh, the operatives of the National Security in particular have abandoned their core duties of gathering intelligence and rather extorting monies from importers and agents at the Tema port.
He accused the National Security operatives of also witch hunting political opponents instead of concentrating on gathering intelligence.
“When you come to Tema harbour, you will see a whole National Security operative beating his chest and telling importers to allow him to do examination on their goods when they are actually not tax officers,” he noted.
Sylvester Tetteh said the posture of the security agencies is troubling because of the fact that they do not have time to concentrate on their core mandate to ensure safety and security of Ghanaians.
He said if the security agencies were working incidence of murder such as the killing of Nkwanta North DCE would not happen.
