The New Patriotic Party in the Volta Region has lambasted President John Dramani Mahama of deliberately instigating inhabitants of the Volta Region against them in a desperate move to hold onto power.
At a press conference held in Ho on Wednesday to respond to statements made by the President during his recent visit to the chiefs and peopleof Anlo, the Regional Chairman of the NPP, John Peter Amewu, accused President John Mahama of playing the tribal card anderroneously attributing all development projectsin the region to his NDC party to ostensibly setthe region against the NPP.
“In his attempt to tout his achievements, the President erroneously submitted that his party (NDC) is responsible for all the massive projects that the region has witnessed since the inception of the fourth republic. He argued thatthe NPP has nothing to show in terms of development in the region, despite being inpower for eight years from 2001 to 2009. Headded that the people of the region must ignore NPP’s claim that NDC government had taken Voltarians for a ride.
The President also saidthe NPP is doing everything possible todiscourage the chiefs and people of the Anlo State and Volta Region in general from votingfor the NDC come November 7, 2016.”John Peter Amewu enumerated a number of development projects carried out in the regionduring the NPP’s regime, and reassured thepeople of NPP’s resolve to industrialize theregion and to restore hope to Ghanaians.“Ghanaians know that the NPP has a goodrecord in the Volta Region, and the people ofthe region will in deed attest to the countless projects and opportunities created for them bythe NPP Government in 8 years, compared withthe combined 16 years of NDC’s rule.
Just within the Anlo State, where the presidentvisited, 15 towns and villages received water extension schemes, notable among them, is the coastal belt water supply schemes at Adina,Blekusu, Amutinu and Glidzi-Afuta and Avloto.”He also gave assurances that an NPP government under Nana Addo will construct aharbour for Keta and invest heavily inagriculture in the Volta Region with the provision of tax holidays to encourage investors to the region.
