Thousands of Ghanaians took to the streets of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital on Wednesday to protest against the Electoral Commission over it refusal to clean the current voters register.
The protesters argued that the current voters register is over bloated with names of foreigners as well as names of Ghanaians who are dead.
This they explained, makes the voters register not credible and wants it changed before it could be used for this year's elections.
The protest which was debbed "Baamu Yadda"(we won't agree) was organized by pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) in collaboration with Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), Movement for Change and the Ashanti Regional branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP).
It brought the youth, the middle class and the aged on the streets bringing business activities to a halt.
The protesters wielded placards some of which read "EC must sit up", Ghana Abre", and "We need new voters register.
"Speaking to Oman News Convener for Let My Vote Count Alliance David Asante who described the protest as a huge success said "they believe EC boss Mrs. Charlotte Osei would listen this time round after seeing the crowd."He said would not rest on their shoulders until, the EC clean the current voters register.
