B/A Minister sued for allegedly sacking Atebubu DCE

Two assembly members in the Atebubu Amanten District have sued the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister for his alleged involvement in the dismissal of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Sampson Owusu Boateng.

The two, Yaw Asante and Shaibu Razak, want the Regional Minister to explain why he wrote a letter to dismiss the DCE.

Lawyer for the two assembly members, Kwaku Asoma Kyeremeh, told Citi News that the

actions of the Regional Minister is an illegality since it is solely the prerogative of the

President to hire and fire DCEs.

“They came to say that either the assembly itself passes a vote of no confidence in Martin

Owusu Boateng as DCE or the president revokes the appointment or the that DCE resigns. That

is what the constitution says,” the lawyer said.

Asoma Kyeremeh also said that they are suing the Minister for him to explain what powers

allowed him to remove the DCE from office.

“These two assembly members sought to find out the authority that the Regional Minister had

to revoke the appointment that had been made by the President.

"We are asking the court to let him explain by which authority he can say that he has removed the DCE.”

The former DCE, Sampson Owusu Boateng, was accused of instigating the youth of the area to

destroy the offices of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the district following his

removal from office.

The DCE has accused the MP for the area, Sanja Nanja, of masterminding his removal from

office with the support of the Regional Minister.

Clashes

Three people were arrested following clashes in Atebubu-Amantin on Tuesday, after some supporters of the former DCE and those of the MP, clashed over Owusu Boateng’s dismissal

from office.

His angry supporters subsequently set fire to the NDC party office.

Later, some NDC youth also allegedly ransacked the home of the official bungalow of the former DCE. Police say they are investigating the two incidents.
