The 2016 Policy Advisor to the campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Boakye Agyarko is incensed over attempt by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to criminalize the party’s decision to hire three South African ex-police officers to train its internal security personnel’s.

Mr. Boakye described as shocking, claims by the BNI that the retired police officers are mercenaries.

He said it is unacceptable for the BNI to tag the ex-police as mercenaries, arguing that they were security consultants who were brought into the country by the Delta Security Force to engage in legitimate business.

“This people are in the security business and their business is security. They didn’t come to cause any trouble as alleged. They came in for security arrangement.” They didn’t come in through an unapproved means. So why tagging them.”

Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (Rtd.) 54, WO/Denver Dwayhe Naidu (Rtd.) 39, and Captain Mlungiseleli Jokani (Rtd.) 45 were picked up at the El Capitano Hotel at Agona Duakwa Sunday, March 20 by BNI officials in the Agona East of the Central region.

The trio was allegedly engaged in training fifteen young men in various military drills, including unarmed combat, weapon handling, VIP protection techniques and rapid response maneuvers”.

Speaking on Oman FM political analysis programme ‘Boiling Point’ Mr. Agyarko rejected the claims by the BNI saying they are only in Ghana to train the party’s security guards.

He explained the NPP engaged the same people during the 2012 elections to train the party’s security and left afterwards.

He stated that the party had to re-engage them because of the lessons learnt during the 2012 election petition.

According to Mr. Agyarko, the three ex-police were in Ghana this time round to train the personal security guards of Nana Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as well as build the capacity of the party officials ahead of the November polls.

“In 2012 they were here. We went to court and nothing happened. Just two weeks ago one of them was here providing personal protection for Microsoft executives, who were in Ghana. That one government didn’t see anything wrong.”

Mr. Agyarko, who accused the governing National Democratic Congress of hunting the NPP particularly its flagbearer said, the party will not joke with the security of Nana Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, having witnessed the gruesome murder of MP for Abuakwa North late JB Dankwa Adu.

He said “we were in the country when JB Dankwa was murdered and the some people trying hard to make the case a foolish one. We were in the country when the DCE for Nkwanta South was also murdered.”

He assured NPP supporters to remain calm as the party is putting in place adequate measures to protect the flagbearer and the running mate to ensure that nobody harms them.
