20 drivers arrested for traffic offenses

About 20 commercial and private vehicle drivers have been arrested and processed for court for trial by the Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department.
Their offences are ranging from driving without a valid driving license, faulty break, driving defective vehicles, overloading etc.They were arrested during a spot check on the Tema- Dawhenya road Tuesday.
Speaking to Oman News the Tema Regional MTTD Commander Chief Superintendent Oduro Amaning said the drivers would be arraigned before court on Wednesday.
He was worried that the region had witnessed a sharp rise in accident since the beginning of this year.Chief Superintendent Amaning blamed the situation on the attitude of drivers in the region.
According to him, his outfit had been educating the drivers on the need to comply with road traffic regulations yet majority of them he said were still adamant.He urged drivers to exercise caution to reduce the carnage on our roads.
