A fire fighting system which is the first ever fire early warning system designed by a Holland trained Ghanaian engineer and CEO of Socio computers Ltd. has been introduced in Ghana.
The Socio Early Fire Prevention system is a state of the art invention based on local technology and using GSM/SMS alert techniques.
It monitors fire as it starts, offering the best in capacity, capability and reliability in detecting and alerting before the fire escalates.
It is designed in such a way that it has smoke detectors and ordinary fire alarms as well as a console which picks fire signals from the scene to the nearby Fire Service station for prompt response.
Unlike the ordinary smoke and fire detectors built to trigger alarms, the socio system not only triggers alarm, but sends real time alert calls and s.m.s to phones of property owners, security officers attached to buildings when they are not in their offices or homes and a centralized fire alert server at the District Fire Service Office.
This comes at the time when the country is experiencing rampant fire outbreaks which has destroyed several properties and lives.
Speaking to Oman News during a simulation exercise at the premises of the Ghana Water Company limited in Tema CEO of Socio Computers, Dr. Kenneth Afari, who stressed the importance of the system said, the rampart fire outbreaks being experienced in the country would be reduced to the barest minimum if the public is sensitized to procure the system and install it in their offices and homes.
“…Unlike the ordinary smoke and fire detectors, with our system, property owners can leave their homes, offices and other property with a greater sense of security,” he noted.
Dr Afari said the socio early fire warning system has already been integrated into the operations of the Ghana National Fire Service in all districts nationwide.
Some of the institutions which Dr Afari is currently working for include the Ghana Standard Authority, Ghana Armed Forces, Bank of Ghana, ECG, Ghana Airport Company and VRA.

Mr. Kwabena Kwarteng,
Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ghana National Fire Service Mr. Kwabena Kwarteng, who represented the National Chief Fire Officer, stated that the system has been thoroughly tested and approved for use.
“Dr. Afari’s products have been tested and accepted and therefore those that are buying and putting it in their offices, I can assure you that it is going to work.”
He commended the Ghana Water Company Limited for the steps they have taken to prevent fire outbreaks and urged other institutions to emulate.
