Abdul Baba Rahman stood against the mighty Angel Di Maria and his Paris Saint-Germain side earning all the plaudits for his performance in the UEFA Champions League game.
The player had dropped into the Chelsea squad due to injuries to captain John Terry and Kurt Zouma. With both players still sidelined, Baba Rahman was named in the starting line-up once again against Manchester City in the FA Cup.
When the team-sheet for Manchester City was released, one could not help but see the game going Chelsea’s way despite their inconsistencies this season.
And so it was with Ghanaian defender Abdul Baba Rahman literally having a stroll on the Stamford Bridge park.
For the first time in his Chelsea career the former Kotoko player did feel at home. Confidence was oozing all around him and his eye for the offence was beaming more than ever.
Chelsea were doing most of their attacking down the left side and Baba Rahman was heavily involved. Eventually a goal did come via the left side of Chelsea attack with Diego Costa heading home a superb Eden Hazard cross.
But City hadn’t been all silent in the game. Their response to the goal was quick with David Faupala equalizing just two minutes after Costa had scored the opener.
But that proved to be just a consolation considering Chelsea’s second half performance.
Guus Hiddink’s men who were playing at home dominated play and took just three minutes after the interval to restore their lead via the sensational Willian.
Gary Cahill added double the lead taking the score line to 3-1 and there was no way back for the many youngsters in the Manchester City squad.
Eden Hazard who had played some good football prior to him finding the back of the net made the score line 4-1 with a superb free-kick goal before Bertrand Traore rounded things off for Rahman’s side with the fifth Chelsea goal to advance to the next round of the FA Cup with a 5-1 win against the Etihad outfit.
Ghanaian defender Abdul Baba Rahman played in the entire duration of the game without a booking.
