Pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVC), is insisting that the National Election Steering Committee set up by the Electoral Commission to steer the affairs of the November polls, is still compromised and must be dissolved, despite the withdrawal of a known NDC member, Dr. Karl Marx Arhin, from the committee.
Dr. Arhin’s withdrawal from the committee followed massive pressure from the LMVCA over what they called a biased composition of the committee’s membership.
LMVCA accused the EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, of deliberately picking National Democratic Congress affiliates from relevant institutions to man the steering committee.
Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda, the convener of Let My Vote Count Alliance, David Boateng Asante argued that the withdrawal of Dr. Karl Max Arhin is a serious indictment on the Electoral Commission.
“EC told us that the committee is independent. So for Dr. Karl Max Arhin to withdraw from the committee after we raised questions on the composition of the members is an indictment on the EC,”he indicated.
David Asante, who described the development as dangerous for the country, believes it is highly embarrassing and shameful on the part of the EC.
He warned that if EC fails to quietly accede to their demand for the dissolution of the committee, they will be compelled to serialize the political affiliations of all the 18-members of the committee including the representatives of the head of the security agencies.
“Do you know that the Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, Mr. Joseph Whittal, who is a member of the committee contested for a parliamentary seat on the ticket of NDC in Builsa North? Do you also know that Mr. Francis Azumah also contested for parliamentary seat on the ticket of NDC?” he quizzed.
David Asante explained further that during the 2012 general elections for instance, Mr. Francis Azumah was the representative of NDC in one of the collation centres.
He charged Ghanaians to be vigilant because EC is setting up a game to rig the elections in favour of the NDC.
“Let the EC dissolve the committee now,” David Asante stressed.
