A Retired Captain of the Ghana Armed Forces Edmund Ben Duah is asking Parliamentarians to prioritize their personal security by securing their homes with CCTV cameras. Captain (rtd) Ben Duah also wants the parliamentarians to procure weapons to defend themselves in case of an attack. According to him, it is essential for the MPs to value their lives and make considerable investments in their personal security, since the nature of their job makes them prone to possible attacks by criminals and disgruntled people in the society.

“One advice I will give to every MP in the country is that they should spend money and install CCTV cameras in their homes. It has so many advantages and one of which is that, it will scare criminals away,” Captain Edmund Duah stressed.

His advice follows the murder of New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu last Tuesday and a similar attack on NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Barbara Asher Ayisi on Saturday. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Oman News, Captain( rtd) Duah who stressed the importance of having CCTV cameras in homes said it will scare criminals because they know that they could be captured.

He added that in circumstances where criminals even succeeded in robbing, the footage from the CCTV cameras could be relied on to investigate the incidence.

Comparing the advantages of having physical security and the use of CCTV cameras, Captain Edmund Duah said digital surveillance is by far admirable than having physical security.

He said the risk involved in engaging the services of a security man in your home is that he can be the greatest enemy if you fail to take proper care of him.

Captain Edmund Duah also urged government to install CCTV cameras at all the vantage points to augment the efforts of the police in fighting crimes, particularly contract killings. He charged Ghanaians to do all they could to protect themselves rather than relying solely on the police for protection since the police could not be everywhere at every time
