The Jamong Family in the Bunkpurugu Yooyo District in the Northern Region has called on the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service to transfer the District Police Commander for the area as well as the Northern Regional Commander for being partly responsible for the continuous murdering of their family members by their rival, Jafoak Family.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Thursday, spokesperson for the Jamong family, Andrew Lomah, chronicled a number of instances to buttress their call for the transfer of the two police commanders.
He accused the police of being biased towards the Jamong Family, saying they have arrested several Jafoak Family members for murdering their (Jamong) relatives but were later set free.
“We want to tell Ghanaians that the regional commander and the District police are partly responsible for the continuous murder of the Jamong Family members and the crisis in Bunkpurugu as a whole,” he said.
Andrew Lamoh stated that no individual has any right to take human life and walk freely as the Jafoak Family members have been doing in a democratic country like Ghana.
“Nobody, irrespective of your position or title is above the laws of Ghana, the rule of law must prevail in all situations and circumstances with regards to individuals or groups involved in any crime committed, and there is no such thing as inequality before the law,” he argued.
According to Andrew Lamoh, Bunkpurugu was a peaceful place until one Abuba who is not a royal was installed as the chief of the area.
He said, they can equally match him, Abuba and his men but have chosen to be law abiding than engaging in an uncouth, uncultured and uncivilized behavior.
“We demand an immediate arrest and prosecution of Abuba and all his men involved in the killings of all the innocent souls because the laws of Ghana frowns on it,” he said.
