A Deputy Ranking member on Defense and Interior Committee in Parliament Major Derick Oduro is accusing the leadership of Ghana’s Parliament for failing to ensure that all MP’s are given adequate security protection.

He said he and his colleagues MP’s have complained on countless occasions to the leadership of parliament to provide them with security because they don’t feel safe but their complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

Major Derick Oduro, who is also the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North said apart from his colleagues, who are ministers and the leadership of parliament, who have been given police protection, the rest does not have security.

His comment follows the murder of the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region; Hon Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu.

Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu was stabbed by unknown assailant(s) in his home near Ange Hill Hotel, East Legon in Accra, Tuesday morning.

Preliminary investigations by police show that the deceased suffered multiple stab wounds inflicted by his attacker(s).

Speaking to Oman News, Major Derick Oduro said, he will blame both the leadership of parliament and government for putting the lives of MP’s in danger.

“I will blame the leadership of parliament and government for putting our lives in danger,” he stated.

He was worried that there is growing insecurity in the country despite the assurances from the police service that they are on top of the security.

He cautioned Ghanaians against the accepting the assurances from the police of their ability to protect them saying it could be disastrous.

“If the police tell you to sleep because they are there to protect you it’s a lie. When you are sleeping keep one of your eyes opens so that incase of anything you can run,” he advised.
