The Financial Intelligence Center has obtained a court order to freeze accounts of former National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Chief Executive, Sylvester Mensah.Justice Georgina Mensah Dacher granted the unit’s ex-parte application Thursday morning at Financial Court 1.
Sylvester Mensah is being investigated by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) over allegations he fraudulently paid false claims to some medical facilities.Mr. Mensah tendered himself to the BNI on the New Year's Day, January 1, after seven armed BNI operatives stormed his residence at Tse Addo near Trade Fair in Accra.
Mr. Mensah was not home when the armed men invaded his residence. He has since been cooperating with the Bureau. But some members of the governing National Democratic Congress suspect the investigation is politically motivated. They suspect the investigation is masterminded by persons within the party and calculated at tarnishing the reputation of Mr Mensah. All Executives of the La Dadekotopon Constituency of the NDC in Accra have jointly signed a petition to the national head quarters demanding an end to the investigation. They have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the national head quarters of the party to intervene and stop what they claim to be "senseless" harassment of Mr.
Mensah.Even before the deadline for the ultimatum, the executives have closed down all constituency offices and have vowed not to vote in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
