The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana has commissioned a 1.4million dollar research centre with a call on public and private institutions to take advantage of the facility to enhance their research work.

The facility which has been christened Measurement, Learning and Evaluating (MLE) Unit of ISSER,was funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The MLE will support the work of ISSER by providing operational services across all aspects of survey research and practices from study design to data collection and storage, analysis and dissemination of findings.

It will also provide Technical assistance services to institutions that are implementing development projects in West Africa.

Speaking at the commissioning of the facility the Director of ISSER, Professor Felix Asante noted that the unit seeks to achieve three key objectives, stating that it will strengthen technology infrastructure and innovation, improve advocacy, communication and marketing and establish regional partnerships and networks.

“The unit is a state of the art data centre where data can be managed, stored and analyzed locally with more robust data security and back- up systems,” Professor Asante stated.

According to Professor Asante, the new data centre will eliminate the use of paper and shorten the time used conducting research work.

“This can be used to conduct census and elections,” he said.
