The National Women Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Otiko Afisa Djaba is incensed by President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to accept the two ex-detainees of Guantanamo Bay to stay in Ghana.
Otiko Afisa Djaba could not fathom why president Mahama decided to agree with US government to transfer the detainees to Ghana at a time when the country is about to go into a crucial elections in November 7 this year.
She believes President Mahama has an ulterior motive for accepting the detainees to Ghana.
Describing the agreement between the Government of Ghana and US government as an unholy alliance, Otiko Afisa Djaba said she thinks this decision was taken because of the upcoming elections.
The arrival of Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, who are members of Al-Qaeda, in Ghana, has triggered lots of controversy in the country.
Government and its spokespersons have boldly defended the decision to bring the two into Ghana.
Speaking on the issue on Oman National Agenda, however, Otiko Afisa Djaba described president Mahama as a dictator and stated that the fugitives are a serious threat to Ghana national security and wants President Mahama to return them.
According to Otiko Djaba, it will be disastrous to allow the fugitives to stay in Ghana in the sense that they are going to get married and give birth to “terrorist babies” for Ghana.
Otiko Djaba chastised the President for not consulting parliament before accepting the detainees, saying the country is being governed by a constitution and urged president to bear in mind that he is not operating in a vacuum.
Although President Mahama has indicated that there were no monetary benefits in accepting the detainees, Otiko Djaba expressed doubt over President Mahama’s assertions saying “I don’t believe Mahama.”
She demanded that President Mahama should apologize to the entire country for not respecting the country’s constitution and security.
