The 2016 Policy Advisor for the campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Boakye Agyarko has slammed President Mahama for misusing the country’s resources at a time when state institutions, such as the Ghana National Fire Service, are struggling with provision of logistics to combat fire outbreaks.
Mr. Agyarko finds it incredible that President Mahama could go to the extent of paying millions of dollars to a US based consultant to draft the State of the Nation speech he will be delivering to parliament in February this year.
Speaking on Oman FM’s Political Analysis program “Boiling Point”, Mr. Agyarko described as sad, why the Mahama administration could airlift more than fifteen officials to join the consultant in US for a single speech.
“You will be shocked if you see the money that is going into this exercise,” Mr. Agyarko quipped.
Mr. Agyarko said he was saddened by a revelation by Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie, the chief fire officer, that his outfit doesn’t even have a single fire tender that could go to the sixth floor of any high rise buildings in the country in the case of a fire outbreak.
According to Mr. Agyarko, per the Chief Fire Officers explanation, Ghana will not be able to combat any fire outbreak in the sixth floor of a building like the Job 600 building.
‘This money they are paying the consultant can buy five or more tenders to resource the fire service,” he
stated.
Touching briefly on the speech, Mr. Agyarko revealed that President Mahama will announce the introduction of new taxes for the small and medium scale sector.
