Pressure group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is incensed by the revelation that Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) procured six laptops at a whooping cost to the state of GHc 300,000.00
This is contained in the 2013 Auditor General’s report where each of the laptops was valued at an incredible GHC50, 000.00
The said laptops, according to the Auditor General’s report, were procured to assist CAGD get rid of the numerous ghost names on government pay roll.
Speaking on Oman FM’s Boiling Point, a Political Analysis programme, President of AFAG, Dr. Nana Ayew chastised the Controller and Accountant General Department for spending such a colossal amount on just six laptops.
“It is incredulous and incredible that 300,000 Ghana cedis was used to procure just six laptops by the Controller and Accountant Generals Department,” Dr Nana Ayew told Kwabena Kwakye, host of the programme.
According to him, the issue smacks of corruption arguing “there is no way six laptops could cost the state this huge sums of money. These laptops were not from space….even if they were, it shouldn’t cost us this amount.”
Dr Ayew believes the motivation for widespread corruption in state institutions in the country is due to the fact that the governing NDC is practicing serious unbridled corruption.
Dr Ayew charged Ghanaians to rise up and stem the tide of corruption to save the country from being run down by corrupt civil servants and politicians.
