The Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) Security Manager at the Tema Port, Lt Colonel TT Ba-Taa Banah has warned shippers and agents who indulge in fraudulent activities at the port to desist from it.

This he said, is because security at the port has been tightened this year to ensure that fraudsters are arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.

Speaking at the induction of new executives of Customs Brokers Association of Ghana (CUBAG) in Tema, Lt. Taa Banah noted that his outfit recorded several fraudulent cases within the port last year which did not auger well for the port authorities.

“So this year we are not going to relent on our effort to clamp down on these fraudsters,” Lt Taa Banah stated.

According to him, the fraudulent activities by some shippers and freight forwarders is tarnishing the image of the Tema port and vowed to stop it before it get worse.

Lt. Col. Taa Banah cautioned CUBAG members, who may be engaging in acts which deny the state of the right taxes to stop it right away saying “I will be sad to hear the arrest of any of your members because I have told you what we are going to do.”

He called for collaboration from members of CUBAG to fight against the canker.

“While GPHA is investing in electronics and human resources to fight this canker we certainly can’t do it alone and we require your support,” he intimated.

The National President of CUBAG, Daniel Asomani also cautioned fellow members to desist from acts that tend to defraud the state of required revenues.

“Instead, you have to use your professional knowledge and competence to assist in the maximum collection of the much needed revenue.”
