The 2016 Policy Advisor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign team, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, has chastised President John Dramani Mahama over his claim that the two-ex detainees from Guantanamo Bay, who are presently in Ghana, are not a threat to Ghana.

Mr. Boakye Agyarko argued that the two ex-detainees are a serious threat to Ghana’s national security contrary to president Mahama’s assertion that they are harmless.

Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby arrived in Ghana on Thursday January 7, 2016 for a two-year stay as part of a deal reached between the United States of America and the Government of Ghana.

The two are said to have ties with Taliban and Al-Qaeda terrorists groups.

Their presence in Ghana has sparked raging controversy, with many questioning President Mahama’s motivation in accepting their stay in Ghana.

Speaking on Oman FM’s political Analysis programme Boiling Point Tuesday, Mr. Agyarko, who said he witnessed the September 11, 2001 bombing in US, described President Mahama as completely ignorant as far as fundamentalist ideology was concerned.

He is convinced that President Mahama would desist from certain comments he has been making, if had an inkling about fundamentalists ideology.

Delving deep into the fundamentalist ideology, Mr. Agyarko said the jihadist or fundamentalist ideology is that any country where “Sharia law” is not applied is considered an enemy.

He said under the jihadist system the world is classified into two different forms—the world of peace and the world of war—and “that if you are not for me you’re against me.”

According to him, the jihadist mentality is that any country where Sharia is not applied is not worth preserving so they will find every way possible to eliminate people in that country.

He said there is no way the two ex-detainees would be harmless since they were jailed by the US.

Mr. Agyarko said the current leader of Islamic State of Iran and Levan (ISIL), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi for instance was arrested and jailed between 2005 and 2009 in Bucca prison camp for his involvement in terrorism.

He said after United States released him, he formed the ISIL and is now the biggest threat to Iraq.

He added that Ibrahim al-Qosi who is the current face of Osama Bin –Laden’s Al-Qaeda network in Yemen was arrested and jailed for ten years during US invasion in Iraq.

He said just after his release from prison by the US he went to Yemen to lead the Al-Qaeda network there.

Mr. Agyarko therefore charged President Mahama to give a second thought about the two detainees and reverse his decision or risk the security of the country.
