K'BU Senior staff insist on CEO”S removal

Some members of the Korle Bu Senior Staff Association have embarked on a demonstration to protest what they claim to be attempts by the Board and management of the hospital to intimidate the leadership.

The threats follow a demand by the staff who want the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital CEO, Dr. Gilbert Buckle sacked.

Members of the association marched to the hospital’s administration block in solidarity with their members being intimidated.

They reiterated their call for the CEO’s removal claiming that he has been a failure.

Members of the Association who say the chief executive is repeating the mistakes of his predecessors passed a vote of no confidence in him early this month.

They cited various reasons including the lack of medicines at the hospital’s pharmacy.

The president of the Association Charles Ofei-Palm said "Things are not going well in Korle Bu…from so many points of view. Shortages all over the places….Why are we not being able to provide supplies? All the equipment have broken down. Things are running out of hand.

A week later nurses and midwives at the facility joined calls for Mr. Buckle to be dismissed, enumerating similar concerns as the senior staff.

The agitated nurses and midwives wrote a letter to the Health Ministry and copied the presidency demanding the dismissal of the Korle Bu CEO.

However, Board Chairman of Korle Bu Anthony Mawuli Sallah said “all the allegations have no foundation. They are baseless and are untrue.”

Management also held a press conference to dispute the allegations by the senior staff as well as the nurses and midwives.

The leadership of the Senior Staff Association were subsequently queried. And today’s demonstration was to show solidarity with the leadership and to stress on the demand for the CEO to be sacked.
