The Minority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is demanding a review of $98 million deal involving Smarttys Production and Management Limited to ensure value for money.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu alleged that Smarttys is fronting for a Chinese firm in the $98 million electrification deal with the state.

He told Stand in Morning Show host Kwabena Kwakye, that government should have exercised much caution at a time when Smarttys is embroiled in a scandalous 3.9 million cedis rebranding contract which dust was yet to settle.

The Minority Leader wondered why a company which had just been found to have duped the state of millions of cedis should. be given another contract of such magnitude and proportion.

“What is the proof that she had not swindled the nation this time again?” he questioned

Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu advised the media to join in the fight against fraudulent government contracts which have become the order of the day and is being used by the authorities and their cronies to fleece the ordinary Ghanaian of the limited national cake due them

He said the fight should not be left to the Minority in Parliament alone, who are always willing to come back and l be firm on the various contracts, but the entire populace should emulate the Biblical “violence” as the means of fighting to restore the dignity and respect of the nation through accountability.

He said the nation is going through a difficult and dangerous phase of unprecedented thievery and inflated government projects which is impinging so much on the economy and therefore the cedi.

The Minority Leader claimed that though the dubious Smarttys deal has been approved by Parliament, the Majority used its number to push the deal through, albeit suspicious, on the last day of sitting before the Christmas break.

He decried and condemned the practice where some government officials and even the Presidency would resort to mounting a strong defense for projects and contracts which have been found to be dubious and fraudulent ,instead of calling for a review and withdrawal of such contracts .
