Voting is underway in the Amenfi West Constituency in the Western Region to elect a Member of Parliament. after the demise of the incumbent NDC MP, John Gyetuah in October this year.
According to Opanyin Fordjour of Oman News, there was a general calm and peace in most parts of the Constituency, except for a small misunderstanding that ensued between some electorate and the EC officials over missing voters register after they had been told that the register had been taken to a different polling station,.
Reports indicate that some electorates were at the polling station from 7am but voting started at about 9am after the police intervened.
Bremang which is believed to be a stronghold of the NDC also happens to be the hometown of the late MP, John Gyetuah as well as the NPP's aspiring parliamentary candidate in the ongoing by-elections, Paul Denkyi.
Supporters of the NPP and NDC were blaming each other for the act. Some of the agitated voters had to be whisked away from the center, but calm was returned after the timely intervention of the police.
Just before the bye-elections the constituency saw some developments which had eluded the area for all this while. For instance the construction of asphaltic overlays at Asankragua in Wassa -Amenfi at about 9pm yesterday was ongoing, with vehicle lights as the main source of illumination.
Participants in the contest are NPP’s Paul Dekyi, Eric Afful of the NDC, PPP’s Abraham Kojo Buadee and Elvis Adjei of the UF.P.
