A pro- National Democratic Congress (NDC) group, Volta Youth for Development has expressed shock and disappointment in the party and President Mahama for maintaining Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur as a running mate.

The group in a press release stated that “We are highly disappointed the NDC will choose Mr. Amissah Arthur, a Fanti over a Voltarian as its running mate despite our continuous support for the party whether our region gets developed through that or not.”

It accused the party of intimidating them through the sending of threatening text messages to some of their members and also getting people to spy on them.

“When did the party start intimidating people for just pushing their suggestions and concerns across? When did the party become so autocratic to the extent of even to Voltarians? The group quizzed.

It would be recalled that the group had issued a press release urging President Mahama to consider choosing Speaker of Parliament Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho as his running mate for the 2016 general elections.

The group said, the continuous strong support of NDC by Voltarians despite the neglect in developmental projects, deemed it necessary for Mahama to "console" the region with a running mate position.

But Hon. Doe Adjaho issued a counter press release saying “I won’t compete with my former lecturer for any position including the position of the Vice-President of Ghana.”

He claimed he had “longstanding relationship with the Vice-President spanning over 30 years."

President John Dramani Mahama Monday retained the Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur as his running mate for the 2016 general elections.

However, reacting to President Mahama’s decision, the group maintained that there are still lots of other competent Voltarians like Mr. Sylvester Mensah (Former NHIA CEO) and Hon. Helen Ntoso (Current Volta Regional Minister) who could have still been honoured with this position in place of him.

They claimed the NDC has hatched the agenda of eliminating Voltarians from all key positions in the party citing the removal of Ben Dotse Malor (Former Communication Advisor to the President of Ghana) and Prosper Bani (Former Chief of Staff) as few examples.

The group also accused the General Secretary of NDC, Mr. Asiedu Nketia for asking the public to ignore them because they are not party members.

“If he could label his own party member and executive, George Boateng as a mad man to the world when he wasn't, we are not and will not be bothered by any mud he throws at us; the Voltarians since he has already done worse to our Voltarian father Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings.”
