President Mahama should choose a Muslim Running Mate - Islamic Youth Association

A group calling itself Islamic Youth Association(IYA) and affiliated to the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) is urging President John Dramani Mahama to drop his Vice President and go for a Muslim to partner him.

"There are two major religious groups in Ghana namely Christianity and Islam. President Mahama being a Christian, we entreat him to choose a Muslim as his running mate to ensure equal representation and attention.”

The group made the call in a statement signed by Mr. Yussif Adam, who is the convener of the group.

"It is very deep to note that because of the confidence Nana Addo has maintained in Dr. Bawumia (a Muslim), most Muslims are convinced to vote for the NPP in the 2016 general elections,” the statement noted.

“In other to stop this trend, we (NDC) must also do well to appoint a Muslim else majority of our Muslim brothers and sisters will vote for NPP coming 2016,” it added.

It is the conviction of the group that choosing a Muslim running mate will also ensure that “the problems we (Muslims) face during our annual journey to Mecca will be resolved.”

The group cautioned President Mahama against maintaining Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah- Arthur as his running mate stressing “We have realized the incompetency of Vice President Amissah-Arthur and we are convinced that his reappointment will be a doom for our beloved party (NDC) and the nation.”

“We are echoing this into the ears of President Mahama that Muslims are competent so in his quest to change incompetent Amissah-Arthur, a Muslim will be the best to partner him to ensure victory 2016.”
