Northern Region Rejects President Mahama

A total of 10,190 supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region voted ‘NO’ to reject the candidature of President Mahama for the 2016 general elections.This was followed by supporters in the Central Region and Volta Region, which is considered to be the party’s “World Bank” in Ghana’s body politics.Official figures released by the party at a press conference in Accra showed that Northern Region recorded the highest number of those who voted “NO” against President Mahama with 10,190 votes.Central Region followed with 7,375, Volta Region 7264, Upper West 6,504, upper East 6085, Eastern Region 5,812, Greater Accra 5,577, Ashanti Region 5,187, Western Region 4,718 and Brong Ahafo 4,603.The ruling NDC over the weekend held its presidential and parliamentary primaries to endorse President Mahama’s candidature and also to elect parliamentary candidates ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Card bearing members of the NDC were to vote YES or NO to endorse President Mahama or reject him.It emerged that out of the total of 1,324,249 supporters who voted 1, 1235,972 voted YES to endorse President Mahama while 63,173 voted NO to reject him.Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Hon.

Rachael Appoh has alleged that she paid money to influence her constituents from voting against President Mahama.Available information to Oman News indicates that most of the supporters in Brong Ahafo voted No against President Mahama but the party executives massaged the figures.
