The ruling National Democratic Congress says it is not worried about 63,173 members of the party who voted “No” against the candidature of President John Dramani Mahama at the just ended presidential and parliamentary primaries. President John Dramani Mahama, who was the sole candidate obtained 1,235,972 votes out of the total of 1,324,249 valid votes cast representing 95.3%.
Political Analysts argue that the developments will be detrimental to the fortunes of President Mahama in 2016 general elections. According to their interpretation, it means the party’s supporters are not happy about the performance of President Mahama so far.
But the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho disagrees. Speaking to Oman News at a press conference which was addressed by Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of NDC Mr. Anyidoho said, “Majority of the party supporters voted for him and so there is more confidence in President Mahama.”
Touching on those who voted No, Mr Anyidoho said, my brother “This is democracy so if the people say no what can you do” adding that “we have accepted the results are moving on”.
