Zambia's kwacha firmed on Wednesday as the dollar paused its recent rally, helping to soothe the currency of Africa's number two copper producer after the metal's price hit a six-year low.

By 0905 GMT, the kwacha had gained 6.02 percent to 11.7200 per dollar, its firmest level in nearly a week.
