Coach J.E Sarpong has stated that there should be a transition to replace Asamoah Gyan in the near future, since age is not on his side
Asamoah Gyan, who turns 30 on November 22, is the all-time topscorer of Ghana in international football with 48 goals.
However, Gyan’s lack of much playing time and goals due to series of injuries, he has suffered in 2015, coupled with his poor show against Comoros Island on Tuesday has made the coach who identified his talent when he was a student at Accra Academy to advice the technical handlers of the Black Stars to map up a strategy to get Asamoah Gyan’s successor in attack as the Black Stars skipper turn 30.
“The Black Stars players have so much confidence in Asamoah Gyan as the one who gets the goals for them when the going becomes tough, but other players are also in the system, namely Mahatma Otoo, Ebenezer Assifuah and co," he told Asempa FM.
“It is about time we introduced young stars into the team gradually to get the confidence, because if Assifuah can score against
Liverpool at Anfield, so can he do it when given the opportunity to play for Ghana.
“Did we have the morale confidence to take out Gyan when things were not going on well? As you grow your strength will go down and I think Asamoah Gyan of years ago is not the Asamoah Gyan of today. That is why the coach needs to let someone under-study Asamoah and bring the person on as and when it matters”.
